confidence

growing up i used to be the quietest kid in the room
i figured that "confident" was something i just couldn't be
like some sort of a character i didn't know how to play
because all the confident kids were nothing like me

it felt far from who i was to be bold
to have an opinion or speak up to share it
so i just sat in the corner, watching them
i never felt that i belong

'til i realized how different we all are
even the confident ones are unlike each other

so i looked back at who i am
what i've done, what i'm here for

and decided, you know what,

i don't need to fit in to belong—
i'll just be me.
